Super Bowl XLIV Pre– Game

Smith Center Smoke Signal

This years Super Bowl is hosting the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts.  The Super Bowl will be played in Miami, Florida at the Sun Life Stadium.  The Colts Dwight Freeney may not be playing in the game because of a torn ligament in his ankle.  The Colts will definitely miss his defensive pressure on the Saints Quarterback Drew Brees.  The Saints are ranked #1 in offense,  while the Colts are depending on Peyton Manning to dominate their offense. Will the Colts defense be able to contain the Saint’s offense?  This is the Saints first Super Bowl, and can they pull it off after losing their last regular season games?   I asked some people for their predictions on the game and Tristan Sasse says the Saints are going to win 27-24.   Another source, Robert Strine says the Colts are going to win 35-28.  There are obviously mixed opinions on who is going to win the game, but it is going to be a game to watch.  Journey will be performing at pregame, and then with The Who for the Halftime Show.

Super Bowl XLIV Postgame

Super bowl XLIV started off great for the Indianapolis Colts they scored the first ten points of the game. A 38 yard field goal by Matt Stover and a nineteen yard touchdown reception by Pierre Garcon were the only points in the first. The second quarter was dominated by the Saints. But all they could get was a 44 and 46 yard field goal by Garrett Hartley. At halftime the score was 10-6 Colts. The Who performed at the halftime show.

To start the second half, the Saints were kicking off, but they had a risky call to go with an onside kick.  The Colts weren’t prepared for it and the Saints recovered.  They started their drive with good field position at around their 40 yard line.  About half way through the third quarter Pierre Thomas took a short screen pass 16 yards for a touchdown. The Saints had their first lead of the game 13-10. It looked like the Saints might end up running away with the game. But later in the quarter Joseph Addai ran it up the middle for a four yard touchdown. The Colts reclaimed the lead 17-13. At the end of the third quarter Garrett Hartley made another field goal. To make the score at the end of the third 17-16 Colts.

The Colts had the ball at the start of the fourth with terrible field position. They weren’t able to move the ball and had to punt. So the Saints had the ball at mid-field with over ten minutes remaining. First down after first down, the Saints finally had a 1st and goal at the two. Drew Brees faked the hand off to Reggie Bush and had a wide Jeremy Shockey in the back of the end zone. The score was now 22-17 Saints. They decided to go for two. The conversion was no good or so they thought. Saints coach Sean Payton threw the challenge flag after the referee talked it over they ended up counting the two point conversion. Their was only about 5 minutes left in the game. Peyton Manning kept throwing across the field. It eventually cost him when he threw and interception to Tracey Porter. Their was nobody in front of him and he took it to the house. The score after the extra point 31-17 Saints. The Colts had a fourth and goal with about 1 minute left they weren’t able to score and the Saints were winners of Super bowl XLIV.
