Text Box: Spotlight On...
Text Box: This year’s 8th grade Lady Red basketball team has done an outstanding job, if I do say so myself. Starting out the season, Osborne was the first to take us on. Although they beat us 29-36, we didn’t hang our heads. We came out in the second half and gave it our all, scoring 23 points in addition to the 6 points from the first half. Kaitlin Albert scored 9 of the 29 points. Norton was the second team to take on the Lady Red. The Lady Jays fell in defeat with a score of 38-17. Colbie Decker, the leading scorer of the night, scored a total of 19 points. The third game of the season, we were put up against Hill City. Lady Red came out on top with a score of 30-27. Once again, Colbie Decker was the leading scorer of the night, with a total of 17 points.
The fourth game of the season was against Ellis. Again, Lady Red took their place on top with a score of 28-21. The leading scorer of the night with a total of 18 points was once again Colbie Decker. Stockton also tried to take us on, but the Lady Red held their ground, ending the game with a score of 31-24. With the leading scorer Alyssa Hobelmann, scoring 14 points. Trego was our sixth game of the season, and it was a very well-played game. Smith Center once again came out on top with a score of 32-19. Kaitlin Albert scored 7 points, ranking the lead scorer of the evening. Plainville took their turn on the court and gave it their all. But the Lady Red ended the game with a score of 40-9. Kaitlin Albert and Alyssa Hobelmann each scored a total of 10 points each.
Next up for the Lady Red was the Smith Center Tournament. The first game of the day was against Beloit. The final score was 32-22. Colbie Decker scored a total of 9 points. Norton was our last game of the day, and it ended with a score of 31-22. Colbie Decker scored a total of 12 points.
Our last game of the regular season was played against the Phillipsburg Lady Panthers. Phillipsburg did their best to keep up, but they were left in Lady Red dust with a score of 27-23. Colbie Decker once again claimed her place as the lead scorer with a total of 15 points.
The MCEL Basketball tournament was the next challenge that the Lady Red faced. The first game of the day was between Smith Center and Hill City. The Lady Ringnecks were once again defeated by the Lady Red, with a score of 28-25. Lynzee Mace was the leading scorer of the game, with a total of 8 points. The second and last game of the day was played against the Trego Eagles. We took our second win of the day ending the game 27-15.
After four days of hard work in practice, the Lady Red stepped onto the court to face the Osborne Bullpups for the title of MCEL League Champions. It was a very intense game that had everyone on the edge of their seats. We gave it our all, but the undefeated Osborne Bullpups took the win, and the title with a score of 24-32. The Smith Center Lady Red took second place.
The 8th Grade Lady Red Basketball girls showed pride, talent, and potential throughout the entire season.

Text Box: This week the spotlight is on Sierra Reece! Sierra just moved here from K-Town, and she told us that her favorite hobby is riding horses. She said she liked Smith Center because the students were nicer and the mascot isn’t as cliché as a blue and sliver bull. Sierra likes sports because it gives her the opportunity to meet new people. Her two favorite classes are Technology and PE. Some new friends that she has made are Logan Snyder and Tara Ranstead.
